Video teleprompter: read your script and record in one place
Updated 29 September 2026 · by Viktor, video creator
A video teleprompter scrolls your script next to the lens while the camera records you, so you finish with a video, not a read-through. Inream Teleprompter does it in a phone or laptop browser: the text waits when you pause, and subtitles are made from your script.
We make Inream Teleprompter. Every fact about another app comes from that app’s own pages, checked on 18 September 2026; each linked name opens a side-by-side page with the source of every value.
Three kinds of teleprompter
- A glass rig: a beam-splitter mirror in front of a camera, with the text on a screen below it. Made for studios, where the camera is a few metres away.
- A scroll-only app: it shows the text, and you record with something else, then line the two up.
- A video teleprompter: the script over the camera preview and the recording in one app, on the device you already hold.
For a talking-head video on a phone or laptop, the third is the one to use. A rig earns its place when the camera is further from you; Inream Teleprompter has a mirror mode for that case too.
What to look for in a video teleprompter
- Text right under the lens, in short lines. Long lines make your eyes sweep across the screen, and viewers notice.
- Scrolling that follows you. A fixed speed either leaves you behind or makes you wait.
- A quick way to retake or trim without opening an editor.
- Subtitles that match what you said, with an .srt file for YouTube or an LMS.
- The formats you publish in: 9:16, 1:1, 16:9.
- Where the videos are stored, and what happens if the recording is interrupted.
How Inream Teleprompter records
- Paste the script or write one with AI. It is reflowed into lines of three to five words in a band under the front camera.
- Choose a scroll mode and a format, and press record.
- Read. The script moves with you; one tap steps it back a line if you need to re-read.
- Stop, trim the ends, check the subtitles, export and share.
What comes out is the finished video: trimmed, with subtitles built from your script word for word, and an .srt file alongside.
Scrolling that adapts to you
| Mode | How it moves | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Auto-pause | Moves while you speak, waits when you stop. Listens for your voice, not your words, and calibrates to the room’s noise during the 3-2-1 countdown. | First takes, pauses to think, any language or accent |
| Linear | A fixed speed you choose, 60-200 words per minute. | Scripts you know well and want at a steady rhythm |
| Adaptive | Learns your reading pace and starts the next take at it. | Recording a series, or the same script more than once |
Auto-pause does not use speech recognition. It only needs to hear that you are speaking, so it works with any language and accent, in a noisy room as well as a quiet one.
Built so a take is not lost
- The screen stays awake for the whole take.
- A phone call or an app switch ends the take and keeps everything recorded up to that moment, instead of filming the inside of your pocket.
- Takes are saved on your device. If the tab closes before you export, the home screen offers the take back.
- Your script is kept in the browser, so closing the tab does not lose it.
- If our server cannot be reached, recording still works.
- A take can run for 45 minutes, with a warning three minutes before the end.
- If a phone cannot render the final video itself, it is rendered on our server and the upload is deleted afterwards, within 24 hours at most.

Questions
What is a video teleprompter?
A teleprompter that also records you: the script scrolls next to the lens while the camera films, so you end with a video rather than a separate recording to sync.
Do I need a teleprompter rig to record a video?
Not for a talking-head video on a phone or laptop. A beam-splitter rig matters when the camera is a few metres away, as in a studio.
Can people tell I am reading?
Much less when the text sits right under the lens in short lines and moves at your pace. What gives reading away is the eye travelling across long lines.
Which video teleprompter makes subtitles from the script?
Inream Teleprompter builds them from your script word for word, with an .srt file, on the free plan too. BIGVU, Teleprompter.com and CapCut generate them from the audio.
